The Claire Lynch Band
4:30 pm
One of
General Robert E. Lee’s quotes is:
“I don’t believe we can have an army without
music”.
How
true that is and how fitting that we wrap up the
weekend with the Claire Lynch Band! Their
performance will include “Dear Sister,” a song
written by Claire that was inspired by a Civil War
era letter found in a trunk in North Alabama.
Long recognized and praised as a creative force in
acoustic music, Claire Lynch is a pioneer who
continually
pushes the boundaries of the bluegrass genre. The
current Claire Lynch Band is a powerful juggernaut,
a quartet that has the innate ability to perfectly
interpret the beauty, subtlety, and genre-defying
sophistication of her music. Claire’s career is
fittingly bookended
by two
CIBMA Female Vocalist of the Year awards: in 2010,
for recognition of her current work with the Claire
Lynch Band; and in 1997, for her influential work
with the Front Porch String Band, and as a solo
artist. Her band members are also award winning
musicians.

Microwave Dave &
The Nukes
Concert: 7:00pm
Twenty years of performances
in the U.S and Europe and six albums-with more on
the way-have helped Microwave Dave & The Nukes
establish a wide multinational audience. Venues vary
from French soccer stadiums to Bike Week in Daytona
Beach, from blues cruises on the Big Red Boat to
neighborhood saloons, but the thousands of shows
delivered by the band all reflect one core element:
the heritage blues music enjoys as a lifter of
spirits. As Microwave Dave puts it: "Blues is
America's first-and still best-self-help program."

Austin Cunningham
Early on in his career, Garland, Texas native
Austin Cunningham carved out a
place for himself as a songwriter. He has had songs
recorded by artists such as Chris Knight, Hank
Williams, Jr., III Tyme Out, Claire Lynch, Del
McCoury, Wynonna, and the list goes on. Austin has
songs on feature film soundtracks including Ashley
Judd’s Where the Heart Is, and the Richard Gere/Winona
Ryder film, Autumn in New York. He and his music are
featured in "Hey Dillon", a documentary about one of
the "last great DJs", Brett Dillon of KHYI in
Dallas. Austin has performed at the Sundance Film
Festival for the Bluebird Café On the Road series,
and a few years back, was awarded the coveted Johnny
Mercer Award for “Emerging American Songwriters”.
Although writing is Austin’s first passion, he is no
slouch at performing, blazing a trail with live
shows across the U.S. and is a favorite on the Texas
Music Scene. With a strong voice and some of the
best guitar playing you’ll ever hear, he always
manages to captivate his audience. Whether
performing an acoustic solo, or rocking the house
with a strat and a full band, it is entertainment at
it’s best. This is just good, roots music mixed with
great stories.
Amanda Shires &
Rod Picott
Rod Picott has released five solo cds and one with
duo partner Amanda Shires, all to excellent reviews.
Rod has been featured in No Depression
Magazine, the BBC2Radio London, Sirius/XM Radio, and
was the opening act for Alison Krauss and Union
Station on their 1997 tour.
In 2001 Rod’s co-write “Broke down” ,
recorded by Slaid Cleaves became the most played
song on Americana radio and was awarded the song of
the year at the Austin Music Awards.
The song was also featured in the film
“Solitary Man” starring Michael Douglas in 2010.
Picott is known for his narrative melodic
songwriting, passionate delivery and darkly humorous
onstage storytelling.
Amanda Shires’ Texas twang and fetching vibrato can
dance playfully around a melody or haunt a line like
a mournful ghost, and she deftly employs her
fiddle/violin to similar effect. Shires is just a
down-to-earth, self-effacing West Texas gal
currently residing in Nashville, working her tail
off trying to find her niche in the music industry
as an independent artist. In the recent Hollywood
movie Country Strong, she played the fiddle player
in the band backing Gwyneth Paltrow’s fictional
country superstar. You can also find Amanda in the
August/September issue of Garden & Gun in
the “Southern Women” feature article, alongside
Laura Bush and other notable Southern ladies.
